Expect the rising Dolphins to push the Bills to the back of the pack as two 5-4 AFC East rivals duke it out for a wildcard spot in the conference
No one likes to be called out by their boss for not pulling their weight, but when it’s in front of an international audience it must fire you up to prove him wrong. When Miami Dolphins coach Joe Philbin said that his quarterback Ryan Tannehill could be dropped ahead of their game at Wembley, his side stormed to a convincing victory that night and he’s not entertained the thought since. Four wins in their last six, Tannehill looks twice the player he was at the start of the season and he’s ready to torch their AFC East rivals the Buffalo Bills on Thursday Night Football.
Both teams have a legitimate chance of making the playoffs despite New England running away with the division title, at 5-4 a win for either team keeps them in the hunt in the surprisingly competitive AFC. Both also come into the game off of tough losses but with the Dolphins vastly improved and the Bills stuttering last weekend, go for Miami to win a close one at 19/20 with a -5.5 handicap.
It’s not only Ryan Tannehill that the Dolphins have rallied around, running back Lamar Miller is having an outstanding season and is giving the Miami offense the perfect balance to their passing game. He’s been getting into the endzone regularly this year, and comes into the game with five touchdowns to his name. Combined with Tannehill getting them down the field, take Miller to punch the ball home to take the first touchdown of the game.
The Bills have been resurging this season, with young receiver Sammy Watkins being a big part of things. In games where he’s gone under 30 yards, his team are 0-4 but for the games he is over, the Bills are 5-0. They are against the 2nd best team in the NFL at defending the pass so he might not get the plays he needs to help out the depleted Bills offence.
You do, however, have to give props to a defence which lost one of their best players in Kiko Alonso early in the season. They are 7th in points allowed, whereas Miami are only slightly ahead in 5th, so don’t expect a high-scoring affair here. Take both teams combined to score less than under 42.5 points at 83/100, as it’ll be a game of mainly field goals and expect that Miller TD to be the difference.
